Member-only story
The last couple months or so haven’t been real fun.
I’ve been in the hospital 4 times. Once from falling on the ice, 3 because I wanted to detox from alcohol.
You know what I got told? We are discharging you.
First it was because my BAC was 0.0 so there’s “no way I could have needed detox,” even though it takes 3–5 DAYS to detox from alcohol, mostly while you’re 0.0.
Next it was that I was .245. Another excuse. They said I couldn’t possibly be withdrawing yet because I had a BAC.
Um, I’ve had a BAC at a staggering, almost dead, .55 before. At that point .245 feels like hell.
So what was I supposed to do? Discharged both times. What do you do when a hospital won’t treat you anymore because they feel like it’s your fault and you should have had the willpower to stop?
They somehow forget it’s an ACTUAL DISEASE…
That’s all I’ve got. I got through it on my own though. Thank God…
